"Godspell" was a highly successful but basically low-budget play that grew out of Tebelak's college thesis. The film version uses New York City as its set and attempts to achieve the most colorful and sweeping illustration of the basic themes of Jesus' parables as revealed in the Gospel according to Matthew. 1973."
